So I've been in IT for a bit now and I see so many IT people who just use the company given standard dell mouse and keyboard which are a POS btw in terms of ergonomics so this Black Friday everyone was talking about what to get and I said why don't you get a nice mouse? They ask me how much is it and I said an mx master is 50 to 100 bucks, and they gasped! They said why would you pay so much for a mouse?... Cuz this is your livelihood? Cuz you use it freakin 9 hrs a day for the next 30 years and you complain about how your wrist hurts but won't get a better one cuz you think 50 bucks is too expensive?? You ever see a professional sushi chef use a 10 dollar knife? Anyways, they ended up buying an iPhone and some laptops. Am I the crazy one for buying a nice mouse for work if I'm in IT? Out of 50 workers, we have 3 guys who bought our own mouses and everyone uses the cheap dell mouses that came with the computer. And everyone complains about it... But they won't upgrade.
You are not crazy. I’ve always been trying to convince my colleagues to get a better keyboard since their whole career are built on top of it and I think they deserve a better one :)
Noop you are not and I dont get it when people gasp at my 300 dollar bose Bose noise cancelling headphones . Its also the same with software , engineers just don't seem to want to pay for anything. Productivity and time is super important for me and I will be happy to pay if it gives me an edge
why do you even need a mouse? touchpad and keyboard shortcuts are enough for everything on a mac
I use gui-based IDEs
Same. I need it for Informatica
My office just gave me an MX Master and ergo kb when i started. It's dope
When I was writing 10 lines of code per month I didn't really care about keyboard or mouse, I was more concerned with what tea I should drink. And there was no way I would wear noise cancelling headphones, didn't wanna miss the latest gossip in the office.
Thanks for all those telling me I'm the norm. Thought so.
I bought my own mech KB and MX master, and nice headphones to use at work. 3 other people on my team bought MX masters after using mine for 5 mins
You're thinking long-term when most people are short sighted.
