Don't go by the new increased salaries at Amazon

It is still a toxic place. Perhaps more so. Amazon now paying similar to Facebook might make it more desirable to people now. But expect the internal competition to increase and PIPs being more frequent. URA still exists and it has been expanded to cover more people now (Getting the lowest rating is by-default URA now). Our HRs still suck. No need to explain that, they are among the worst in the industry. We are struggling to grow as a company and that is reflected in our flat stock price since May 2020. The comp is paid over 4 years and the average tenure of engineers here is 1.8 years. Average reporting time between manager-report is 8 months. You don't want to work here at the cost of your personal life. Maybe accept a lower offer and have some peace of mind and work for an employer that actually treats you like a human. 220k, 5 YOE.

is there an end year bonus aside from the offer letter?

Amazon HFwT83 Apr 9, 2022

Amazon umama Apr 9, 2022

The most common answer to any benefits question at Amazon is no Is there free Prime? No Is there any perf bonuses? No Can I expense XYZ? Most likely no Is there free medical? No Is there paid maternity/paternity leave? No until 1 year tenure Is there 401k matching? No won’t vest until 3 years tenure Is there paid on call? No Is there gym on site? No Is there tuition reimbursement? No Is there free/discount cafeteria? No And so on

This says it all: "The comp is paid over 4 years and the average tenure of engineers here is 1.8 years." That means if you are going for the TC, you won't make it to the cliff.

Oracle dEkd65 Apr 9, 2022

Almost every top company has an average tenure of 1.8 years for SWEs. I think that number is even lower for Amazon.

Peraton FqFz68 Apr 10, 2022

But Amazon gives larger sign on bonuses for the first two years to make up for the low RSU they give for the first two years so it’s actually not bad in that sense. Still shit bennies though

Amazon cRIo41 Apr 9, 2022

Amazon is for losers who can't get into other faang. Don't join if you have other options. Not a good place for the long term. They are just using high offers to lure candidates in. You are very likely to be a tribute to the next round of hunger game 🙈🙉🙊

That being said if you can’t get in elsewhere then going to amazon for a year will probably help you get in elsewhere. And considering you’re likely to be pipped at the one year mark anyway, it’s a good time to prep to leave 😂

Totally agree

Amazon bezosbacha Apr 9, 2022

Dude GTFO. Oh you are not capable to GTFO. Never mind. 😂😂

Amazon LeDi28 Apr 10, 2022

Yeah I'll GTFO when I want to, you have no right to tell me when I should. The goal of publicly revealing how disgusting Amazon is to prevent others from going through the horror other deserving employees go through here. Remember "inside a horrifying workplace" article? Remember that guy who tried to commit suicide jumping from the Apollo building? I'll GTFO but others, please stay away because vultures like @bezosbacha thrive here.

> You don't want to work here at the cost of your personal life. Maybe accept a lower offer and have some peace of mind and work for an employer that actually treats you like a human. THIS. I cannot agree more with this paragraph. Its never worth it to sacrifice your health for an employer. Amazon's default strategy is toxic worker exploitation. A good team is an aberration, an exception and NOT the default.

You got a war story with that username?

Amazon fVLN41 Apr 10, 2022

Don't get the lowest rating and you won't get pipped 🤷

Amazon LeDi28 Apr 10, 2022

Except that Amazon forces orgs larger than 100 people (which is most Amazon orgs), to put 10% on Focus (not necessarily bottom 10) out of which 6% are URA. If a team has all amazing people, the unfortunate one who missed a deadline by 2 days, or took a vacation at the wrong time has to be sacrificed. Amazon forces managers to kick out about 10/100 people in an org every year because of it's stupid philosophy of "we expect bottom 10% to be LE". Expect? What you are foretellers? If managers or directors refuse to follow this heinous practice, they are kicked out. I've seen 3 L7s, 2 directors and 2 L6s leave Amazon right after OLR season during my career here which seems fishy. So yeah, it's not as easy as "don't get the lowest rating". This article sums it up well: https://www.hcamag.com/us/news/general/leaked-amazon-memo-shows-how-it-forces-out-employees-to-hit-targets/253161

Why are u there

T-Mobile hop2022 Apr 17, 2022

This is not always true, I have two family members who’ve been in Amazon. First new grad who joined and workplace is toxic and left. Another family member had a good experience and been at Amazon for sometime. Very well compensated and happy with the team he’s in
