Hello! I need advice for an upcoming interview. I recently joined a company in the second week of April. The team is great but I don't really enjoy the work and I feel like it's not going to help me in my long-term career. I accepted it because of the 40%+ pay increase. I've continued my job search and I have an interview for another company soon - a live coding exercise on Thursday. My current resume still says 'present' but I have the new job on my LinkedIn but I did not make a post about getting the new job.

Questions:
- how should I tell my current situation with my interviewers?
- how should I change my resume for future applications? Should I have: present company: June 2021 - April 2022 or June 2021 - Present?
- should I include my current company on my resume?

Don’t tell anything about the new job to the recruiters. They don’t need to know about a two-weeks work stint.

Remove any reference of your new employer from your resume and LinkedIn as soon as possible, and if anyone asks just say that you want to keep that information confidential for privacy reasons until after your probation time.

@Yelp, after 6 months companies still don't question why you have a huge gap in your background check?

      They have never asked.

If they ask, I will simply say —“I was supporting a family member with a medical condition”— which will prevent them from enquiring any further because that would be illegal.

If you don’t want to mention the word “medical” then say —“I took six months off work to learn X and Y and be ready for these interviews”—

Or, —“I took X weeks off to recover from burnout from my previous job”—

      So on and so forth.

For your information, background checks are not omniscients.

Be as honest as you are comfortable with, but don’t feel like you have to give up all your personal information for a new job.

I was in a similar boat before I can’t to AWS. I didn’t change my resume to new company (I was technically at the old company when I applied, so I kept it throughout the process, despite the fact I was at the new company for most of the time). I would keep the new company out of it entirely.

Probably 6 weeks! AWS only criminal background checks, but if it came up, I would just say I left old company early.

Good job on landing aws! Did they ever ask you what you were currently doing or where you were working?

I'm not sure what I would say if they ask me: what am I doing now/where am I currently working
