Recently went through the first interview for the role. Moving on to the dataset stage. They said they’ll send me a dataset that I need to format, interpret and provide recommendations for. Wanted to see if anyone could provide any tips from DD?

  • If you’re good with excel it should be relatively straightforward. They give you a written case and data, you try to answer the questions they ask based on the data, you put the answers on a deck. Use a Google template for the deck rather than spending time making your own.

It took me about 3-4 hours to do it. People on Glassdoor said it took them much longer but I really don’t know how it could take you longer than that if you have experience in data analysis and presenting findings. For what it’s worth I think the case roughly mirrors the problems you’ll be solving so consider it as practice for the role

Ya i read some people taking 8-10 hours. I’m pretty comfortable with excel and industry based knowledge. Are the future stages increasingly more difficult for the case studies?

    • I hate to say this but if it takes someone 8-10 hours to do it they probably aren’t qualified for the role.

It’s one interview (out of many) and they ask you about your analyses. Write down all of your assumptions in the deck. They may question some of your findings but it should be a conversation. Pretend you are speaking to your current manager

Honestly I was so annoyed I was being asked to do the case that I put a purposely mediocre effort into it and still easily got the job. You don’t need industry based knowledge going in, it’s simply looking at the inputs and questions and writing down the findings

Did you end up getting an offer? Is it cool if I DM you?

Don't do it. I did it last year...I spent quite sometime over the weekend. They did not provide any feedback even though I requested specifically for it. It is extremely hit or miss. Take home should not be legal.

I actually don’t mind it. In a weird way I kind of like these type of exercises, but definitely not spending 5+ hours on it. The potential offer is too good to at least not give it shot
