Posted on reddit, is this common with all app based food deliver services? how can DoorDash or any competitor in this market be profitable if they have to shady stuff like this?

Nice, no more tipping
I never tip on doordash or i give cash
When you use Postmates, 100% of the tip goes to the fleet.
And this is why DD is beating everyone else in the US.. because they are shady fucks
DoorDash will always pay $1 + 100% of the tip. If that doesn’t meet the minimum pay for the effort the dasher puts in for that order then DoorDash is covering the rest. It the example above DD is saying this order is at least worth $6.85. If DD’s $1 and the customers tip doesn’t meet or exceed $6.85 DD will cover the rest. Dashers like this model because it provided consistency that other platforms did not. It’s not much different than a restaurant that pools and divides the tips between who worked that day. I bet you didn’t know that some restaurants, the tip you leave for you waiter is divided between the staff. Same as Starbucks, that tip you put for your coffee is divided amongst who worked that day. The media is misinforming people which is a shame but hey. You shouldn’t believe everything you read online. Fool me once, right?
The money that DoorDash “saved” actually gets used for that dasher that didn’t get a tip (covering the difference in someone else’s minimum)

Best LCOL or MCOL city?
Does it mean it’s better to tip as cash ?
Looks like Yes
Or use Postmates where tips are never used for base pay.
