I recently discovered that the amount of your tip paid by Doordash to delivery guys is something like: delivery_payout = $5 + max((customer_tip - $4), 0); So basically, your tip benefits the driver only if it is greater than $4. Otherwise it goes into the pocket of Doordash, and its better to not tip, since Doordash marks up menu prices, and also charges an additional service fee anyway. Alternately, tip in cash, instead of tipping through Doordash. (Okay, the above formula is not exactly correct but an approximation. Their website for dashers says: '"For each delivery, you will always receive at least $1 from DoorDash plus 100% of the customer tip. Where that sum is less than the guaranteed amount, DoorDash will provide a pay boost to make sure you receive the guaranteed amount. Where that sum is more than the guaranteed amount, you pocket the extra amount.")
Do not tip. Let the market push DoorDash to pay drivers more
LPT: Always tip people in cash, otherwise they’re forced to report tip earnings to their employer and IRS.
DoorDash also use a dark pattern where they don’t itemize their ‘fees’ which are separate than their delivery charges .... they club it with the taxes .... also DD turns out to be more expensive than Uber eats in my experience
Realized the same thing last week. Doordash sucks Fuck Doordash. A billion dollar company with an app that looks like some first timers job.
DD is so outrageously expensive already i never tip.
Probably tip the driver in cash. They don't make much
Uber eats only. Cash tips only, every time.
Always pay in cash
Weird. Perhaps they are trying to account for cost but it shouldn’t be so much. Uber passes the whole tip to the driver/courier.
Doordash takes 10% service fee on order amount. That should be more than enough to cover all costs on top of the delivery fees
Instantcart did the same thing. Both them and Doordash were called out by the media a couple weeks ago and Instantcart changed their policies to give 100% of the tip to the driver. Doordash still refuses to charge their policy
Interesting
