Would you consider a job opportunity at your dream company for a 28% pay cut? It’s an 18 month contract with no benefits or perks. It’s a foot in the door and a major resume booster.
If it doesn't hurt too much financially, do it. Big resume builders open up a lot of doors in the future. I treat these opportunities like I would going to an MBA / Grad school, except I get paid and know what I'm doing transfers to the real world. And did you try negotiating?
It’s through a recruiter and the hourly rate is capped.
If it doesnt pay well it's not a very dreamy company lol
Depends on my financial position
Depends on the notional value. 28% can be 30k, 100k, ...will do it for 30k but not 100k.
It’d end up being a $30k pay cut. We could make it work, but I’ve got other job opportunities with pay increases, better benefits/perks, etc.
Understand where Salesforce is coming from. I take the opposite approach. If I'm making 300k, 100k isn't gonna hurt that bad with my expenses, and I likely have a lot saved up. If I'm making 100k, 30k difference is going to hurt. Given your other comment, this a lateral move due to COL difference. Given that there are other jobs with better pay/perks, you gotta ask yourself what this dream company is worth to you personally.
Heard bad reviews about Disney. Treats contractor as 2nd class citizen. Hires contractor so they can cut cost and easier to let go of (friend was let in in 5 months due to budget).
No
Unless you’re so passionate about what they do that you’d do your job for free for that cause, please don’t do it
No
Depends on the name brand on the resume. But being a contractor is not the same as a full timer on your resume. So maybe not.
Disney. 2 different opportunities...one in Glendale, one in Orlando. Both would require relocation...after factoring in cost of living, it’s basically the same financial situation either way.
I wouldn't consider it unless it's FANG. Even then, how great does "SWE Contractor for Google" sound on your resume? How do I know you weren't just some guy in India fixing maintenance bugs?
