L6 SDM here (TC-400k+), male, coming to office in long shorts and round neck t shirts. I met my director for a 1-1 and he recommended me to dress like a “manager / leader” than an engineer since I attend many VP/svp level meetings and that impression will be quite critical if I have to grow to next level! I was an engineer earlier and was quite surprised by the comment. Now considering the option I am still sticking to the org, I need recommendations on style of attire for someone overweight! I have been with Amazon long time (5+ years), moved from east coast (where I used to dress in business casuals). I have significantly outgrown all my dresses as I have put on 15+ pounds after joining Amazon ;( What are some of the good reasonable cost brands I could consider for a dress makeover (I am frugal and would prefer something that is available in outlet malls and costs <$50 for shirts and trousers (separately). Married with two kids and non working spouse. Need to be frugal considering mortgage and expenses! [i have see many directors / Vp in some orgs coming in shorts, but since my director has hinted this twice, I need to start planning for dress makeover, leaving org / hr etc is not at all an option please)
15 pounds is nothing...that’s like one size lol and why are you worried about being frugal when you make 400k. Money doesn’t travel with you to whatever afterworld, my friend.
Just for clarity, I don’t think you explicitly if you were male or female. You did mention dresses. In either case, people might have better advice or suggestions if they knew?
Male
Stichfix.com. clothes deliver to you.
hit the gym
Cutting down on beer is another option..id suggest op is a beer lover..🤣🤣
Oh yeah - beer thrice a week after work :)
Gaining wait at Amazon is strange..😉😉 A rare accomplishment, I would say..
Most folks I work with gained 15-40 lbs in 5+ years with Amazon. Can’t blame Amazon but I need a medium term solution on attire while hitting gyms (I have)

stitchfix. Never hold off on buying clothes for weight loss. The weight loss is not not likely to happen. Also plenty of people make far less than you and buy decent clothes. Spend $1000 on the upgrade and consider it an investment.
Short term - - start with 5-6 shirts wear rotating, two trousers, formal belt, formal shoes (mark nason) - total will be under 1k if you shop from outlet. - wear formal attire on days when you have broader meetings and casual (short/ts) on non broader meeting. This will help you slowly transition over. - also make sure you groom regularly - invest in good hair cut every 3-4weeks. - mid/long term search for personal stylist, they work under a budget
Lose 15 lbs
Old Navy. You can get khakis chinos and polos very cheap. They'll look nice too.
If you can afford it find a stylist to help you with a few outfits. Nordstrom offers this as a service.
And let me add. I would argue that spending some money on a few high quality classic pieces of clothing will be more cost effective in the long run. Many of the items I buy at the outlet mall fall apart after a season.
What are your recommendations? I thought if I lose the 15+ pounds, my old dressss will fit. So was considering outlet mall dresses as a good medium term option.
