I used to live in Moscow. It has arguably one of the best metro and public transportation systems. It's very clean also. Honestly, I got shocked by some homeless sights I witnessed in pretty much any major American city I visited, but it's a separate topic.
When I moved to the US, I used to hate that you have to drive everywhere in vast majority of places. I thought I need to move to New York.
But after years I got so used to driving, that now I'm terrified about the idea of using public transportation. It seems so gross that you have to share your space with so many people.
Visited New York not so long ago, and I was very disappointed. City life seems uncomfortable now. Probably going to stay in Bay Area for a while for an interesting career, sweet TC and amazing outdoor activities. I also lived in southern California (both LA and San Diego), but so far I like Bay Area much better.
Not sure what changed, but I really like one-storied America now. Big cities feel like a concrete zoo. Though I'd prefer to live not too far from a city, so that I can visit that zoo, if I feel bored. Bay Area seems ideal for that. Expensive though.
