Dropbox offer - level eval
I am at level 61 in Microsoft. Potentially getting promoted to 62 in Dec promo cycle and is being transitioned as a tech lead. I have an offer from Dropbox. They offered be IC2. I explained to them about my options in msft, hoping for an IC3. But dropbox is not ready to make me an IC3 offer. Still didn't decide a team. Is it worth taking an IC2 in dropbox in my current situation? Yoe : masters + 5.5 years
L62 is still SWE 2 Right? How come you will become tech lead?
I think L3 is lead. Lead at Microsoft is L65 typically.
Lead can be 3, usually 4. But 3 is still senior, so 61 doesn't really translate into 3, even if you expect an uplevel.

Dude/dudette you are L61 and might get to L62 so IC2 is the correct level . IC3 is Senior for which same level in MS will be L63 at least. All this said, TC wise Dbx will crush your MS pay with IC2. I would have been surprised if you get IC3 from L61 honestly. We have people moving from Amazon L6 to Dbx at IC3. N usually Amazon L6 will mot even join MS below L64 Overall congrats on your offer but there is no way u will get IC3 unless u absolutely crushed it in interviews.
Usually IC2 > 63 so the choice is pretty ez to accept IC2. As an IC2 I got an offer beating many 65s 😂😂😂😂
