Has anyone considered relocating to Dublin, Ireland ? What’s the work situation like? Work visa and road to citizenship ? Weather is not crazy important to me.
I know some coworkers that moved there and they have all returned to the US... high tax. Bad weather.. not core work like US
Terrible TC too. For lower levels its 1/3 or less than same level in the US.
For the love of Kerrygold butter I'm considering on giving up my American citizenship. Sadly no takers.

Necromancer here 🧙♂️ : As an Irish-American growing up in Arizona this is one of those things that makes my life so much clearer. I’ve always had fantasies of living in a lighthouse with the wind against me. I also love waking up or sleeping to the sound of rain and thunder. I am 40 and never once considered moving to Ireland in my entire life. Regrettably, I think I have ignored introspecting on these small things that have rung true in every fiber of my being. A deeper part of me that spent half a lifetime begging me to listen. Planning a trip to Ireland has made me realize I have been taught biological denialism/agnosticism my entire life, and I never once had the capacity to even question it.

It's amazing, especially now as the uk decided to export all their jobs to dublin and Frankfurt. Awesome people and culture. Downsides are weather is obviously not California and housing prices are nuts now as the influx of jobs has far outpaced housing.
Moved from Seattle. Upsides: Dublin is a great little city, feels like a lot to do without much distance to travel to do it. Locals are friendly. I like the weather more then Seattle. Cons: shit housing costs, low comp, COVID restrictions make me want to pull my hair out.

I have - it’s really expensive living here but there is a lot to do (outside of COVID restrictions) and friendly people
Life is good. Fairly difficult to get a work visa but it is possible. Stamp 4 gives you 2 years at a time, but you have to remain sponsored by the same employer. At year 5 you can apply for citizenship. I'd recommend it, though. The weather isn't bad at all. And flights to basically anywhere in EU are under 80 euro.
Huh? Stamp4 basically allows you to be able to work without a need for a visa. That is, you're able to switch employers without a need for visa. No?
Incorrect. Required to have employment, specific to a Critical Skill. Also must continue to be sponsored fir the entirety of the stay from the employer who you registered and applied with.
I have. Lots of CS jobs, but I wasn’t able to find many high end MS jobs (mostly localization). I’ll watch the thread to see if anyone has any more info. 3 years of full time employment will allow you to get a passport and be a permanent resident on the path to citizenship.
