Dublin to San Jose commute

Is it really possible to commute daily from Dublin to offices in Palo Alto, Mountain View, San Jose? Does companies provide parking in those areas or is it like SF downtown? Do we have train connection to those areas from Dublin? How about commute by car to those areas from Dublin? I am relocating to Bay Area, and houses in Dublin are somewhat affordable. TC: 170K

Thanks for your reply. Is it by train or by car? Also does companies have parking available in those areas?

Some companies have shuttles from Dublin area. I would check with your company to see if they offer that. To answer your question - it’s possible. The commute will suck the life out of you though. Parking shouldn’t be an issue in San Jose unless you’re in downtown.

Thanks 🙏 What is the usual commute time?

Driving you’re looking at roughly 1 - 1.5 hours depending on the time (and also where in South Bay you’ll be working). Companies tend to provide flexible hours to allow their employees to avoid traffic. I personally head into work around 11 to avoid traffic. In my experience, if you’re not going to San Francisco, then public transportation is just slow and terrible.

Definitely possible, a lot of people do it. Question is can you work on the shuttle? If yes, good deal. If you don’t have a shuttle or can’t work on it, much harder to deal with it.

Thanks. Does Amazon have shuttle service between those areas? What is the commute time between those areas via shuttle? Which companies have shuttle service?

Not sure about amazon. Google, fb, Netflix, apple all do. Time is variable obviously but usually you’re looking at 1-1.5 hrs in one direction

Where is your work place? Does Amazon have an office in SJ?

My work location is in Palo Alto. I would like to know the possibilities of commute just in case I move to a different company in future.

Palo Alto is a really tough commute. For SJ, Santa Clara there is an option of ACE train. For SF you can always take Bart. There is Scoop and Waze pool option as well. Driving is going to be tough.

Depending on when you leave in the morning vs when you go home, you could be on the road for 4+ hours each day. Peak commute hours are rough, especially if you have to go into Palo Alto.

Exactly.

Amazon has shuttle from dublin to sunnyvale campus, but not sure about palo alto.

Amazon Freakstyle Aug 10, 2019

No, it's a pain. Everyone saying driving takes 1 hour don't have any experience. In the morning it takes 60 to 90 minutes. In the evenings is the real fucking hell. It takes 2 hours to 3 hours. We see this every other day. Public transport sucks balls and there is only one network called ACE train with stupid connectivity. This one takes 2 hours each way, door to door. (30 min less in the morning if you start early). We live here and we're going to relocate just because of commute reasons. If you work in SF then the entire story changes, life here is nothing short of amazing.

I can confirm this. I commute from Dublin to HP in Palo Alto everyday. It takes me a 1.5 hour drive in the morning and like a a 2-2.5 sometimes hour drive to get back home. One of the main reasons I’m quitting.
