Heard some debates recently regarding Google being slow in innovation and no longer an ideal company for early career (< 3~5yrs). Is that true?

Would like ideas especially from people who worked at both Google and other companies. Thanks!

No. It's an awful place for early career SWEs if you're ambitious and hardworking. The slow promo and lower TC is already well documented on Blind. But I'd add something even more important -- the type of work you'll do. At Google, many teams simply move configs around most of the time. They write very little actual code. So you won't learn good software engineering principles here like you'd do at a more typical company. This will hurt you technically, unless you read books and do side projects in your free time and weekends.

General speaking yes, the only thing you can learn is engineering best practices. I would recommend you join for 1-2 years after you reach L4 domain : 1. Know what what the best engineering in the world looks like
    2. Have google on your resume

Unless you find great opportunities to grow (which is rare). If you manage to get L5 in two years after joining, leave (other places L5 pay better). Or if you cannot reach L5 in 2 years, leave (5 yoe can help you get senior offers easily)

Graduate uni / bootcamp -> Meta/G 2-4 years for the resume -> do anything for next 6-8 years -> go back to any top tier company with good WLB and focus on family
