What's a typical consultant/freelancer hourly rate for senior/staff level product designer?

I'm looking to consult/freelance for product design on the side, but am unsure what to charge these days. I used to charge $110/hour 5 years ago but have developed a lot more skills since then including becoming proficient in full stack development (which at least makes it easier to work with engineers). I was thinking in the $140 to $180 per hour range but know some agencies charge $250 per hour.

For reference, I have 10 YOE for product design and 3 YOE for full stack eng. I've worked at startups ranging from 30 people to 200 in SF.

Curious what others charge. Thanks!

I charge $180/hour now and have a very similar profile to you in terms of experience (11 years product design, 3 years full stack dev). I raised it from $150/hour last year.

It also depends on the client though. I've had startups now willing to pay this rate vs others don't bat an eye.

How much did you end up charging? It seems the market for designers is more competitive now

For side work I've found it very hard to get higher hourly. However with flat fee billing i tend to make the most.

Ymmv but finding it very hard to get side work in ux/product design lately. People seem to want full time or nothing.
