I think real engineers get pissed that software developers call themselves engineers. Of course "engineer" is more prestigious. It's also a stretch for most developers to call themselves an engineer.

I call every who is a dev a dev even if their work title says engineer.

If you didn’t pass your engineering exam then you aren’t a professional engineer.
