I have been in the US for 3 years with an E2 visa and I am wondering what my options are if I want to get a more permanent type of stay? The company I work for has been using my visa status in basically every negotiation and they keep reminding me that I wouldn’t be allowed to stay here without them. I have already interviewed with another place that will provide visa and will be changing my job. But I would still like to know about the permanent type of stay possibilities. I am a Swedish citizen. Thanks!
Also consider marrying a US citizen as it makes the process of getting a GC easier and faster. Make sure you have good honest answers to convince the USCIS that the relationship is bonafide and not one of convenience. File for a GC once you have been married for 2 years otherwise you will get a Conditional GC. Once you have been on a spousal GC for 3 years you can then apply for citizenship
That's a huuuuge commitment Vlad! I would personally never suggest doing something like that!
OK
I thought the E2 visa is an investment visa itself. So why you need to work for some company ?
The company sponsored the E2 visa so I could come here and setup their office.
Any update on this? What have you done?
I resigned and moved back to Sweden (changed username). I currently have an offer here that will transfer me after 1 year with an L-1 if I accept their offer. I also started my own LLC in the US so I can freelance for my clients while traveling and thinking about their offer.
Oh ok. Couldn‘t you sponsor yourself a visa due to the LLC?
Ask the company to sponsor you for a green card in the EB-2, or EB-3 classification. Or self-petition for EB-1 extraordinary ability or EB-2 national interest waiver. Or invest $500k to $1M in an American business for an EB-5 visa. Or if you can't do any of the above, find a new company to sponsor you for an H-1B
Thanks! That’s some good info that I will look into!
