I’m an associate test engineer at FireEye and am completely oblivious to the promotion practices here, or at any tech company. I am interested in learning about how to get promoted, how much to ask for in salary/ stock / bonus, etc. Before you bash on me for wanting to stay at FEYE, you should know that I really like it here, see it as a long-term investment, and want to stay for several reasons. For the doubters, here are my reasons: 1) You earn your engineering stripes. FEYE is scrappy, so you learn who you are when your back is against the ropes and you’ve got to box the 400 lb gorillas competing for the same space in the cybersecurity industry. 2) You learn a ton about software engineering. The truth is that FEYE operates like a real software company, the people there are wicked smart, and FEYE has some of the hardest technical challenges to solve, Yes, you’re going to feel like you’re drowning in work at times. But, I’ll be damned if you don’t become a chiseled software veteran after spending a few years at this company. 3) You partake in a meaningful career. Cybersecurity is cool. When you talk about cybersecurity, people are interested and want to listen to you. You get to play with cutting-edge tech, and occasionally get to test it by PWNing a Windows machine in the dirty lab. Who wouldn’t want that? So, now that you see where I’m coming from, how would you go about asking for a promotion, asking for more salary/ stock / bonus, etc? How does it work at other tech companies? #fireeye #fireeyecompensation #fireeyehiring
You can find the same things at other places with 2x or 3x the tc you are making at fireye.
