Asking for a friend. They are thinking of switching to Program/Project Management from EA (Executive assistant). What would be a good path? Any HMs/PMs here? Is getting a CAPM certificate worth it? Or taking a specialization on Coursera say from UC Irvine (there might be one from Google soon)? Will that make someone standout resume-wise to get a call for an interview? Suggestions are welcomed! Ideally from people who make or close to hiring decisions. #pm #projectmanager #programmanager #programmanageratgoogle #ea #coursera #capm #amazon #facebook #google #netflix #apple #microsoft #faang
Friend of mine has shifted from EA to a Program manager role at Cisco.
This is common at Amazon. I know a few EA’s who became non-tech PM’s after working there a couple of years. Anything is possible!
Sure but how did they do it? What if they are an external candidate?
If they are external applying to amazon they can apply directly to a non-tech PM role. Of course it would be easier to move around internally.
Sure, so just apply? Or will (see original post) a certificate/specialization courses increase their chances of getting a call and eventually getting hired?
I am curious as to what your friend ended up doing. Did they get in PM path ?
This is not uncommon. I know a few names but obviously will keep their privacy here. PM me if interested. Some of them will require some digging, but I'd try to find them.
