Hi, How is EA seattle formerly PopCap games. Interviewed for a cloud based position and was offered 135K base. Is this a stable team and worth relocating from bay area?
You certainly make more than me. PopCap is a sinking ship, though, steer very clear. This isnāt pessimism; they havenāt released a hit game since PvZ 2 in 2013. They have had multiple major layoffs since then and their studio is steadily shrinking.
Epic has a lot of Kubernetes AWS stuff going on, is actively hiring, and will probably pay you better. We have a lot more open than is listed on the site
There's a lot more going on at EA Seattle than PopCap. A lot of technical teams have been moved there.
Do you have any information on the core cloud team doing much on AWS, Kubernetes and all?
Unfortunately no. I just know that there are various teams @ EA Seattle that have nothing to do with PopCap and are part of central EA teams. As you've probably seen in the news, EA is going hard on cloud gaming. Microsoft too and possibly Amazon. The talent is there so it only make sense for EA to be where the talent is.
@op, did you join their cloud platform team? if so, how is it over there so far?
Do they pay out base salary in installments of $14.99? 135K is low unless you're new grad-ish
$14.99? 4 years of experience and this is more toward infrastructure engineering.
135K base + 15% Bonus + 70K stock
