Or the expectation is to write on text format and provide test cases but not worry of compiling and running in the interview timeline?

  • Always better to have a runnable code. But communication also plays equally important role.if you are able to explain your logic with no visible bugs in your code you should be fine. Never let the interviewer have a chance to point out bugs in your code. Especially when you are interviewing with FB. FB lays great amount of emphasis on efficiency , correctness and speed for it's interviews as it's coding questions are not unique like Google

      OP
When you say runnable code -- you mean visibly runnable, right? As during interview you can't actually compile and run?

Also -- when you say "FB lays great amount of emphasis on efficiency , correctness and speed for it's interviews as it's coding questions are not unique like Google" -- what does Google pay emphasis to then?

    • Once in a while Google may ignore not so bad errors or accept a brut force solution to a problem. By runnable I mean no infinite loops or correct output doesn't matter if you do so after fixing syntax issues

Surprise! Execution is disabled for Facebook phone screen. You are expected to provide test cases and walk through 1~2 of them.

No. 90% of code wouldnโ€™t even compile
