Hey guys, 3y experience, £90k base I'm currently a quite successful salesperson in my role selling Bloomberg enterprise software, have progressed quickly. I'm very interested in programming, am very technical for a salesperson, know my way around python but I'll definitely never be as good as a real swe who studied CS. My strength remains people skills/sales. I'd like to move to a more technical career path which uses my skills and ideally pays as well. Do you have any suggestions? I've head good things about solutions architects and product managers but I'm worried not being a developer is a strong disadvantage Thanks in advance!
You are making a lot of £ in sales. Keep doing what you are doing.
I feel that you may not be able fill a solution architect role without a technical background. I'd say a product management role would be a good fit for you. Sales requires a lot of people skills, which is a crucial skill in product management. You don't need to know programming. If you can demonstrate that you "get" the technology of the company you are interviewing with, then you would be a good candidate for a starting PM position. Good luck!
That's very helpful thanks guy!!!
Customer Engineer, Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Product Management - these are the perfect roles for you.
