I know at some point Deepmind raised 50M and hired about two dozen specialists, before being acquired 3.5 years after founding. What I can't figure out is how two postdocs implemented enough of a POC to get funding in the first place. I've heard Demis presentation was convincing and I know he had a meeting with Thiel early on.
I guess what I'm really asking us: any CS postdocs want to go all in on a new kind of AI deep tech start-up?
I'll stalk Thiel until I can ramble tidbits about chess to him. You slap together two incremental advances, I'll throw up a neuroscience slide, and we'll sell it as revolutionary.
