Faang Compensation Expectation Question Answers?

Feb 28 5 Comments

Hi all,

I'd like some help here as I'm one step away from HC approval. Before the interview, the recruiter told me the range of base salary (which does not mean anything to me). This is a non-engineering L5 role, so the process is a little different. I have selected a team. The recruiter keeps asking me to give an expected compensation figure, but I don't know what that figure should be/if I should give it now.
- Should I give the expected figure now? I know from the internet that most of the advice says no, you shouldn't. If not, what should the best response be—want to be polite, for sure.
- If it's a good idea to give expected numbers now, how did you arrive at those numbers? Current comp + 20%/30%/50%?
- the offer is negotiable after HC approval, right?
- would recruiter has insights on this stage on what the numbers could be? (or is it fully decided by compensation team). Should I ask the recruiter now?

What kind of role? I’d recommend saying that you are looking to see what kind of holistic package they can put together and as such, there isn’t a single number to provide.

You can always give your desired range and when receiving an offer reconsider and ask for more if you want. It’s all part of the negotiation process. You aren’t locked into the range you give and worst that can happen is they don’t take your counter. You also don’t have to tell them your expectation and say you prefer to review an offer.

I believe you need to add figures for people to better advise
