My wife is pregnant and we are very nervous about coronavirus situation. Bay Area is getting worse and nothing seems to imply it will get better before it gets a lot worse.

What is the best course of action?

Where do you plan to go if you leave Bay Area? If you can drive to a safe place , maybe .. but I wouldn’t trust any of the flights.. they’re gross

  Then you’re better off staying put and making sure you both stay quarantined with minimal contact with the outside world.. I know airlines are saying they’re cleaning more.. but you’re going To meet 100s of ppl in the airport.. and on the flight.. given how much community spread there is already - not sure this is worth the risk..

Not much is actually yet known about the impact on babies in utero or newborns- definitely play it safe. Stay home where you can better control your environment for a multi-month long period. A ‘safe place’ is subjective, and you’ll have less control over whether you can actually stay there long term. Depending on how far along your wife is as well, she will have regular doctor appointments to attend and will likely want to be near her OB closer to delivery time.
