Given the market cap of PayPal and Ayden, I think stripe might be overvalued. What am I missing? Why is it a darling company for SV and YC?

Would love to know actual reasons why people think stripe is overvalued. Based on revenue numbers you donโ€™t know? Perceived opportunities (or lack) for growth? I donโ€™t drink the stripe kool-aid but every time someone on here says stripe is overvalued itโ€™s usually some version of โ€œhurr durr stripe iz not stonkzzโ€

    • While Stripe is building more in BaaS, they have a ton of competition, just in that sector alone. Unit, Column, Increase - all startups looking to take market share away from Stripe among existing competitors like Marqeta.

Column looks very promising too, ex Plaid founderโ€ฆ

Payments is the bread and butter but if people have less reason to stick to Stripe since other services are opening up in those avenues, they can avoid the hefty fees Stripe charges.

You do drink the Kool aid or you produce the Kool aid.

People outside Stripe are a little harder to manipulate. Finding something from Diff(Stripe, another company) isn't enough to justify Stripe's valuation.

If anything you are less efficient than Adyen and less innovative than Square.

I think it's not overvalued but also not undervalued, they have a big market opportunity but their current internal valuation is at the expected future value

So the problem is there is no upside from joining

The $95B valuation is not defensible in these current macroeconomic conditions. This is the valuation latency that comes with being private. At points, it looked undervalued, at points, it looks overvalued, because it is based on a fund raise event from over a year ago.

Over the long run Stripe will have great growth. In the immediate term, the current valuation is outdated and reflects a bull economy with massive new money supply that has since ended.

    • What is the biggest catalyst for stripe's growth? It's more expensive than alternatives. Adyen is going for the big players. In a recession/bear market, I don't see many new startups taking off. International expansion is one way, but that is very expensive since every country region has it's own challenges/local competitors.
