Background - Ex IIT, then IVY (please don't judge, i know engineering masters sucks there), total 3 years full time work experience.

Quoted - 145 Base + ~30-35k Relo + Bonus (not clarified)

Is this good ? Or should I ask more ? As I am positive to get offers from some big techs and some hedge funds as well.

You’re way too modest ex-IITian. Just because you’re from some school doesn’t mean you’re better in the real world.

Why mention your universities at all? Saying that you did your masters was sufficient. Do you really think being an ex IITian gives you more privileges than others? If you didn’t you wouldn’t have mentioned it.

Well universities matter a bit. Now its turning into a war anyways. Most Indian HF / Quant / Startup Founders I see are from IITs. You will give example of big tech CEOs but most have prestigious MBAs. Now lets turn it into a really large scale war, do you think IIT B + CMU is same as Nirma Univ + SJSU ? [I am not saying anything is bad, but both IIT B + CMU are better than mine, i have been on both sides so I know how it feels], really are they same ? If they are then my life is really full of lies and I am glad that I get enlightened today !

Cs. I have worked as a quant before in another big bank , so the ethics I can handle as I only care about the money.

Quant / trading can have a good trajectory. See if you can talk to a hiring manager about comp outlook in 3yrs. If they pay well they'll be happy to explain. If it's a dead end career they'll be confused by your questioning. You should be clear if your reporting lines are trading heads or software. This makes a big difference, unfortunately ( to be clear, you want to be under trading management)

Thanks a lot of the info. Did you end up joining ? Also do GS negotiate ? My recruiter (not the GS one) told me not to negotiate much. As most likely she interested to get her money out of it and don't want to loose it. Also my workEX is only in India. I am about to get graduated in CS.

    • You always negotiate in the US. If someone tells you not to.. I will reconsider your relationship with them. I did not join GS .. I have friends working from GS and I heard too many horror stories from them.

  • Hedge funds win in general. You are rewarded more for loyalty. For GS, hustle or be always taken advantaged.

If this is NY. This is a back office associate pay.

    • Reject and go to the hedge funds and big tech that you speak of.

Really NYC that bad ? I spoke with a quant trader from square point , he told me to go to big bank trading tech and get more exposure , then go for hf, otherwise you will be doing adhoc work in hfs 🤐
