As we see news of some states lifting shutdown and offices reopening, I have mixed feelings.. wfh is challenging with family interruptions and virtual meetings, but I'm still concerned about health as vaccine development is nowhere in sight. Plus news reports are now saying a lot of the "recovered patients" are testing positive again as the virus particles had remained dormant deep within their bodies (these folks thinking they recovered have been going around, likely spreading the virus). Came upon what this other article quotes from a NY based consultant saying he's eager to be the first to return to the office to make himself "look good" to senior management and to "take work off their plates", and I almost vomited. I'm hoping even as the company re-opens its office, it gives employees choice as to go in or continue wfh, at least until things are more stable. Doubt it though.
I am conflicted as well. I think it will be a gradual move back towards normalcy. We will be spaced apart more in the office and have more sanitary measures. If we don’t have room to space apart we will probably institute half wfh and half in the office for two weeks and alternate
I think that's the route our company is looking to take as well although I'm not sure that extra spacing is going to prove to be that effective if you still have high number of folks gathered in the building. Only time will tell I suppose.
Agree but probably the best way to start
Conflicted for different reasons. I actually enjoy WFH now, it’s made the small tasks in life a lot easier. But I also want things to open up so I can enjoy life again lol
Yea I feel like so many folks got to experience wfh through this time that I'm interested to see how this will shift everyone's attitudes after things normalize, meaning will more people start asking their employers for wfh option or seek job opportunities that offer it?
I think employers will offer more WFH options and people will definitely seek it.
WFH is great, I get to manage my own time without any bulls&it like office face time.
Haha I feel like that bulls&it has only increased for me these days. The only thing nice about wfh for me is not having to commute as it was bad for me.
Love wfh. Basically takes facetime out of the equation
Haha that's true but I feel like actual meetings (conference calls) and management's "status checks" became way more frequent than before that sometimes I'd just prefer going into the office.
I love WFH. If we can do WFH + no quarantine life would be amazing
I think I would have wholeheartedly agreed 100% if I were still single with no kids lol
As a single person with no kids, I love wfh! Not missing the office, even a little!
I am looking forward to going back to see clients and colleagues, but obviously want to do it safely and when the time is right.
Hate WFH, but I’m not eager to return to the office. And I think all the measurements were pretty much useless. Take Wisconsin: the court canceled stay home order and first what people did they just rushed to the bars without any precautions as masks or gloves or social distancing. All the previous preventive wins are just wiped now. We gonna see a lot more dead by Covid before it will be over. That’s why I’m going to stay at home at least for a month after they lift orders in CA
Absolutely hate work from home. Number of meetings have increased 3x and calls start early morning and go on till late night. 8.30a-10p. Every time is a meeting time. Everyone is available at every time as there are no other things that are going on. No travel, no vacations, no dentist appt, no car services, etc. And on top of that you need to lock family in a bedroom to avoid noises when you don’t have a dedicate office. And I can literally some people slacking off. Do others have similar experience?
Yes
Yes. I slack off. It is great.

Sick VP about to be Thought a Lesson
At Google itnis going to be a gradual return and I expect the same for most established tech companies. About your consultant comment that makes sense if you want high growth you have to take initiative and hustle and impress higher ups. No one rises up fast just working 9-5 and great wlb they all have paid their dues in one way or another.
Yeah that's true
