All these major companies are having record breaking earnings and now their stocks are ATH. YoY increases are enormous. Is this evidence that WFH for the past year has been working? Obviously other factors such as things opening up again and advertising spending increasing.
Imagine the profit margin going even higher when they stop renting or sell all that useless real estate space
Who are they going to sell it to?
I will buy some for 🌲 fiddy
Too soon to make that conclusion. We proved that we could keep the ship afloat from home, but can you turn it? Innovate? Keep from being obsoleted by an upstart?
And before anyone accuses me of being against WFH—no, I’m down to WFH, but I’m not sold on the fact that it’s here to stay. I wouldn’t sell my place in the Bay to move away and bank on a fully-remote future... yet...
You wouldn’t, but many, many people have. The more people decide to live their life instead of having the company they work for dictate that, the better. Work still happens, the earth still turns and people do what they want and live where they want without having to buy a $2 million rambler
It obviously works, anyone who says otherwise is just in denial at this point.
Or has vested interest in overpriced real estate. 😁
^ wow Microsoft with the critical thinking 👏 so true 😂
Yes, WFH clearly works: Google is saving $1 billion per year as a result of employees working from home https://www.latimes.com/business/technology/story/2021-04-28/google-is-saving-1-billion-per-year-as-a-result-of-employees-working-from-home
Did you get a raise to offset the increase in your personal water sewer and electric bill? They offshored their utility costs!
I don't mind paying a few bucks extra to not have to shit in a public bathroom.
Increased earnings could be due to everyone else working from home, i.e much higher internet usage than last year and thus more reliance on online services. But I would say personally that there seems to be little drop off in productivity for wfh
Google parent Alphabet Inc. saved $268 million in expenses from company promotions, travel and entertainment, compared with the same period a year earlier, “primarily as a result of COVID-19,”
Google’s q1 2021 revenue was 55 billion while projections were 51 billion. 268 mil does not rly move the needle on that number assuming that 268 mil was saved in a single quarter.
You'd think someone who works at Amazon could understand the difference between correlation and causation.
Haha only someone from Apple would reply like an asshole.
😂
It’s not from tech employees wfh, it is from normal people not going out. Getting everything delivered. Of course there will be record profits. Everyone’s lives went online. Now did it permanently change behavior? Maybe. I expect a return towards the mean but won’t return completely
WFH works for some people. It works *for you* that’s it. Just you, the people that like it. Not everyone does. So *you* can go get permission and the ones that want hybrid or full back will do that. Not correlated.
Omg.... ok, person who likes to be stuck in traffic..good for you.👍
my commute is 15 min as I live in the city. What commute? we don’t all have ridiculous commutes. Try again.
If FAANG companies fired half their engineers the only thing that would happen is profit margins would go up. No not correlated.

What do you mean? Most startups/pre-IPO companies embarked on WFH and benefit from it. I didn't get your point.
Maybe smaller companies that are just getting started. A hardware startup for example needs people in the lab
