$315K seems very high for an ME. My daughter is at about $120K, 4 years into her career (BS in ME, MS in AE). She knows 20+ year veterans that are not even breaking $200K, but the WLB, benefits and job security are excellent.

I work on EV battery design. I kinda disagree. You should definitely negotiate for more than 150k or try finding a new job. About 4 years ago, I got an offer from a company in Virginia for 150k (they made nuclear reactor cooling coils).

  • Just switched to SWE and took a pay cut to do it
I think it’ll be worth it in the long run… not just in terms of pay but also quality of life
ME jobs aren’t wfh friendly and I hated having to show up to an assembly line with toxic chemicals every day at 6AM

      Just interviewed at meta yesterday!
I thought they paid welll? My actual base for this year is $240k as I got a sign on bonus. I am hoping meta gives me $250k base and rest in stock 🤞🏾

I’d say for MEs they do pay well. Not sure what level you are. I was 150k base with no equity at my previous job. 250k base would prob be mid/top of band IC6 or close to IC7. IC5 base prob 170-200max.
