With PP gone, looks like its a soft signal from administration to all h1b folks to either pack their bags or rot in their current jobs forever! Let me explain. In current climate, chances of getting rfe is close to 70%. I had transferred and renewed my h1b several times until I applied for a transfer in April this year for FTE role, CS background with 17years exp. To my utter dismay, I was given rfe for specialty occupation and it took three months to get an approval, imagine it took this long with PP in place, what is going to be our plight with PP going away! Going by my bad experience with h1b transfer, I wouldn’t recommend anyone to transfer jobs just on receipt. It would be better to wait till Feb when PP comes back for 3 months(yes, they will most likely suspend it again in April). I know my post sounds so negative, but unfortunately, this is the reality! Feel free to ask me any questions through your comments.

    • @ Salesforce/F_Dev Not everyone buys houses and lands in India when living here. I've been spending all the money I make here in this country. Also, this country has given me way more than what India did. Let's just accept most of the places in Indian are shit to live in. I just don't get the patriotic country bullshit. Yes, the place I was born by chance had a shitty system of governance with basic necessities scarcely available to people living there, so I immigrated to a place with better systems in place where I could work my ass off and create my life. I fail to understand my country, your country logic. Whichever place I live in is close to my heart.

Stop complaining as if H1B is your right.
It's a privilege, you were lucky you had one, be grateful. The US did a favor to you by letting you live here.
Remember, you applied for the Visa, the US didn't knock on your door to ask you to take their Visa.

    • The way I see it, this is a blessing in disguise. The US is mediocre at best. Try working in Canada or europe. TC will be lower, but quality of life is typically higher

    • It’s not USA. It’s a great place to be like any other place in world. Some human species living here, somehow got in their head that they own this part of the world and someone handed them the mythical rights to decide the already broken immigration policies. I wouldn’t blame them. They have lot of free time to discuss this bullshit and let them do that. It’s times like these that give opportunities for other countries to shine and be more welcoming. India for e.g was very forward looking I was there last week. It has got tremendous value. And I’m waiting to sell all my shit I gathered in last 7-8 years and go back .

I am apalled beyond belief. This is going to be a long comment, so bear with me!
I have been a high performer at everything I have done. Went to a top 5 school in Asia, got offers from Google Sydney, Rakuten Tokyo and Microsoft Redmond. With the prospect in living in the land of opportunities and the supposed "American Dream", I chose this. After about 5 years in Microsoft, I decided to switch. Got couple of offers, chose Amazon! Immidiately got RFE - "Speciality occupation".
The job listing clearly listed Masters and exoerience with designing and implementing distributed systems as the requirement - can a job get more specific than this?
I had to wait 3 months in limbo to make a switch and now I hear that its virtually impossible to get out from here.

This month, my paystub had over $1k deducted for Social Security Tax. - isn't it a scam if the government does not want us to stay here? How can they deduct SST for people working on non-immigrant visas with a clear mandate from the government to not let them become citizens here?
I sorely regret my decision to have not chosen Japan or Australia over coming to this immigrant hell where people are being shot coz they are from outside (Kansas shooting). One of the managers in my org had a headcount and he instructed the recruiter to only look for people who wouldn't require visas - she responded with total of 2 candidates after scourging LinkedIn for around a month - and, both were a skill mismatch! This is the reality of US today!
In my team at MS and here at Amazon. I see a max of 10-20% americans - rest are european, asians and Indians!

What are we supposed to do now? Wait for our careers to be fucked or move out of this country?

    • Signed ..? Where did he sign ..? On your wife's ass ..? 😜

I understand your frustration brother. It started with targeting illegal immigrants and now they are targeting people who came in legally. Outsourcing jobs is a serious concern and it will happen more and more if this continues! As they have to pay off shore team members who are not part of American economy !

lol. Another typical Indian crying baby?
Tolka to your wyFe about her assa, brah.
Nobody’s targeting legal immigrants. They’re just targeting your freaking body shops which bring low skilled manpower here.
When you get your visa you should’ve received everything related to taxes etc.
But probably your TATA didn’t provide those to you.

If all Indians disappear form IT here - nothing going to change, we’ll just get more educated people from Europe, Oceania, China. The ones who just can’t get visas because of Indian scammers.

@Workaholi: mostly the former. I’m tired of the rhetoric that Native Americans have some type of entitlement and the rest of us are disrespectful to this land and its natives. If you want to play the, “we were here first” pissing game, let’s all take a blood test and give the land to those with the most Neanderthal genes. Homo Sapiens can GTFO!

Company's headquarter is in TN and it's definitely well above market there. We have an office in the bay that pays more but maybe not as much as the top companies here in the bay. I mainly hire graduate students and interns and this is regardless of the location (Bay and TN). By foreigners, I mean people that are not born in the US and not American.

I don't understand the American hate against Indians. Your forefathers were looking for us when they stumbled upon this country. Now that we are right here, you don't want us. Cho bad!

    • I think the concept of America is lost on its own citizens, but even more clueless are the immigrants (in general). Its our fault that our kids are not able to compete with indiots, and that is why so many are here to work office jobs. Maybe we should have embraced stem in popular culture instead of eminem?

That being said, i have enormous respect for hindus and its many spiritual teachings, but importing a ton of indians into our companies is only turning our countries into Indian companies. Which means loss of efficiency because of unnecessary beauracracy, India is not an efficient country and crime and fraud are social norms in most places, everybody is trying to rip each-other off with a smile on their face. Immigration without assimilation starts to transform the host nation into the nation (or company) into exactly what the immigrants are trying to escape.

I love this country. It has given me security and a roof over my head. I understand people bemoaning the loss of their culture. But culture is not static. Never has been. It changes with people , times and immigration. I have been here for 10 years , paid my taxes, never committed a crime. I also understand the negative stereotypes associated with immigrants. But the same holds true for native born Americans. But I choose not to paint with broad strokes, because doing so would make me a lesser person who believes in the negatives about people. People come to the US for the opportunity. These are some of the more driven and motivated bunch that the world has to offer.

I think I try my best to be a functioning member of society . I donate time and money to social causes and I try to help others.

I would hate to be ousted , my whole life because of the rising anti- immigrant sentiment.
