How much equity should i expect as engineer #1? VCs + ceo on cap table but nobody else. 1%? 5%? I'm 'lead' now with two contractors under me. I have 1%, should i be asking for more? Am responsible for entire tech stack at this point. 80k TC
Is it a tech startup? Is there a cto/technical founder? If not, are you expected to lead the entire technical portion? If the answers are yes, no, no, then you should ask for a lot more.
yep, important to know which of these roles you have
I was engineer #1 at a start up that went through a few rounds, yc, etc before it died. I signed for 6%.
Was it worth it? Would you do it again?
1-5% depending on your seniority and valuation of the company. Also depends on how many cofounders and total headcount so far.

Buy FB now before 20% increase after hours?
1% could be fair depending on experience, but always fight for more. It’s not unreasonable to ask for a few percentage points as the first engineer, but what you have is decent.
