Currently a L6 SDM at Amazon. I get contacted a lot by recruiter at FB for engineering manager role. How different are the responsibilities at Fb? For example, at Amazon I don’t have to code but I should know well about the services my team owns, often write COEs, represent the team is Ops review etc. What to expect at FB? #facebook #engineering #software
I’ve done this. Facebook EM is deeper technically and not nearly as broad. Know your engineers, your goals, and your partner teams (FB calls them “XFN”) in that order. Forget the paperwork, no one cares about COEs etc. Frankly, it’s easier (less to do) but slightly more stressful. The engineers drive everything from the bottom up, we just enable them. If the team fails, you fail.
More technical as in architecture / cross team integration or are you saying coding (above code review)?
Lol, how is it less to do? Your experience is clearly not the same for everyone
what is COE
Correction of error..doc explaining reasons for outage caused by service failures
Followed by a handful of PIP'ed engineers. It's like writing a mathematics theorem by managers at Amazon with the goal of hence proved PIP
Op kindly revert and gtfo
Curious what level they will target you for? I heard they map L7 Amazon to L6 FB, will they give you L6 or ask you to move to L5?
TC or GTFO

Managers from Amazon should stay at Amazon. They are toxic to any companies they join
Your TC, Location, YOE?
Why? What it has to do with my question
