What’s the salary range for EPM at Apple? 6-7 years total experience. Also, what is life like in the role? Any other thoughts welcome. Thanks!
Too much, considering the output I’ve seen from our EPM
Job description: - give unnecessary stress to engineers - even when you have no technical background, act as if you do - take most of credit for stuff you didn’t really do anything about - let your team work, you just have to focus on performance awards at all hands - keep telling your team they have the potential to grow but don’t let anyone grow ( make sure ) - waste as much time in meetings as possible or on writing wikis which no one will ever read - make sure you calendar is fully booked all week long even when you have no idea about most of those meetings * you get paid shot lods of money because you are “considered” to be leading a lot of technical people
my EPMs are nice and pretty hands off in Camera org. But how much do they make???
Hi, do you know how is the work culture in Camera EPM org? Is it brutal work and travel?
EPM here. Pay is comparable to what I was making as a Hardware engineer. In general, HW pay is not comparable to what you can make in SW. The only drawback is growth potential as there are not too many other roles you can jump to from an EPM. Also, I agree with the thread as there are lot of incompetent EPMs that give the role a bad rep. So if you are coming into the role with no technical knowledge and are looking to move to take the “easy” way out, don’t do it, as it makes life tough for all other EPMs.
It feels like there are a ton of EPMs at Apple. Do you ever feel like there’s way too many of them or that they don’t have much influence?
Very team dependent. Some of them are redundant but others are overworked or have a large sphere of influence. I think it also comes out to the capability of the EPM on how much impact they are able to have.
It’s totally unclear what EPMs in SWE land do. I think if they only worked one day a week none of us would actually notice.
EPMs are a force multiplier. If the multiple is over 1, it can make an amazing difference. If the multiple is under 1, it can make a horrifying difference. If the multiple is close to 1, individual engineers won’t notice much difference and will mostly just remember the downsides—but across a whole org it might still be a large contribution. It’s a heavy responsibility. Good EPMs feel that a lot, bad ones don’t. It isn’t a good role to take unless you really want to have a lot of influence and responsibility, and understand responsibility involves obligation. The pay scale is similar to engineering, with… perhaps a smaller frequency / amount of stock grants.
Can I dm you? Thanks
Whats the SW EPM interview process expected? I have done 2 ph screens, 2 onsite with 5 folks each day (ended with director). Due to repeat folks it was 8 unique individuals onsite. When i was expecting results am told 2 more FaceTime interviews. Recruiter says feedback was good, nothing to worry, they do that at times. Is this normal? Any mandatory number of folks EPM needs to be interviewed by (say 10 unique individuals or so)? Cant wrap my mind around this process. As an engineer also i dint go through so much.
EPMs are simply the most useless people I’ve ever met. Totally useless..
21 comments and not one managed to answer the initial question; maybe the thread needs a PM. :P
