Engineering culture Bloomberg

What do you think of Bloomberg as far as engineering culture? In particular, as a place to join as a new grad (London office, if that's at all relevant).

As long as you aren’t a minority, it should be fine. Otherwise, expect to get thrown against a wall and frisked randomly.

what do you mean by engineering culture

like we even have one lol

Engineering culture=good GUI programming.

Bloomberg MiniMikey Feb 14, 2020

hugely org dependent. Few orgs have decent culture, best practices and low tech debt, while some are literally drowning in mud. Ask questions wisely before joining a team.

seconded. luckily the good orgs seem to be doing a lot of hiring this year; ask the right questions and hopefully you'll hear good answers

What are the good orgs you're talking about? Are they in London as well?

Bloomberg hailstan69 Feb 15, 2020

C++98 and JavaScript. Not a place to learn best practices for new grads. Get out soon if it’s your only option.

What about teams using Python?

Bloomberg hailstan69 Feb 16, 2020

It’s almost all an internal fork of Python 2. And as far as I remember, there was no way to deploy Python so those projects were almost always non-critical features. So, still using dated technology that isn’t valuable for early growth.
