I'm fairly happy at Airbnb but thinking about looking around to see if there's a greener grass :) Also, my commute sucks so having a few exploratory calls with LinkedIn, Netflix. Found a role at Indeed that looks interesting. Indeed doesn't have a lot of exposure here so I was wondering if someone could shed light on engineering culture at Sunnyvale office, manager's day-to-day (coding? design/arch decisions or mostly people management?). It seems like a few postings for EMs are evergreen. They couldn't feel them for a long time? Also, how technical are the interviews? I'm a bit rusty with algo/ds problems so would be interested if I should potentially allocate more time to prepare. Location: Bay area TC: 500k YoE: 10
Check out Dropbox, we have a MTV office
Thanks! I'm not sure if I saw relevant openings in your MTV office last time I checked. But I would appreciate if you could comment on Dropbox's eng culture, wlb and etc.
FWIW a good friend of mine is currently an EM at Indeed and I only hear great things from him, and he went there from FAANG.
Holy 🐄 I share your feelings on the 3h commute. I'm doing the same commute even though my company and my home are closer to Caltrain stations than yours. I'm leaving my job in 2weeks for the exact same reason. If you can do it one more year until Airbnb Santa Clara office opens, there will be plenty of teams.
Nice! It would be a great change! As for the Santa Clara office, there are still many ifs. HC/growth might be an issue is the biggest one. Also SF being so close counterintuitively makes it hard for the South Bay office to mature.
Following.
I'm not in Sunnyvale either but I'm in Tokyo and can attest to a good w/l balance, great culture and interesting work being done. We are hiring EM's here too if anyone is interested, DM me for more info! It's not like the image you probably have of Japan.
Thanks for the reply!
Indeed may not be able to match your 500K TC, but the WLB is awesome. Sunnyvale office mostly hires people with Ads experience though.
Thanks! Depending on Airbnb's IPO my TC might go down :) yeah, I saw but based on the job description (data pipelines, scalability, infra and etc) it could still be a fit hopefully even without direct ads experience. Obviously, if it's a hard requirement then I'm not a good fit.
I wouldn’t leave AirBnb..
I'm not yet leaving but it never hurts to look around. I also spend 3hrs a day commuting :(
oh shit.. 3h 😳
