What to expect in engineering manager interview at PayPal ? Is there coding round ? Or focus is on leadership and system design ?

Exactly.. they can’t code to save their lives... if interviews could detect ability to perform at olympic levels in politics, you’d be hired straight away ..jk.. no coding round . Most current managers I know would fail it .

As in they ask java basics ? Or coding round in java ?
Nothing basic. More like under the hood java stuff. You will need to know how some of the java features were implemented. Software patterns. Also they will give you a piece of java code to identify bugs. After that then they will start the coding challenge, and it has to compile and run without bugs. And that is for phone interview.
