Does anyone know how productivity engineering team in Google is?

What are the challenges they face?

The recruiter mentioned that out of the 5 rounds, one would revolve around testing which I find a little bothering.

Why do the swe for engineering productivity have a testing round as opposed to other swe roles?

Checking blind it looks like this was previous seti and was rebranded recently.

What do you get to learn as a swe in engineering productivity team? Does this have a lower bar?

  • Avoid EngProd if possible. They are a second class citizen at Google and it can be really difficult to transfer out of to a “real” Engineering team.

Yes I work with a team that has an engprod counterpart. They develop test infrastructure primarily, then try to convince application developers to use it. Not work I'd enjoy myself, but some do.

    • They also got rid of the SETI ladder and so all EngProd are calibrated against the SWE ladder. This makes it really difficult to get to L5 or beyond since much of the work you do is not considered technically complex or impactful enough.
