I’m trying to switch from software engineering at Microsoft to a technical role In the company with more engagement with outside partners. Something post-sales where I travel and present on Microsoft products to clients would be ideal. What would this role be called at Microsoft? At other companies I’ve seen it labeled as a “Partner Engineer”.
Take a look at the Commercial Software Engineering org
Title in CSE is still SWE.
Also cloud solution architect in CSU although that's technical presales
It seems like an interesting role. The traditional SDE role is a bit too confined. I want a more customer-facing role that’s still technical. Presenting to customers - isn’t that more of a dev advocate role at MSFT though?
Commercial software engineering is the closest. You can also have a look at One commercial partner cloud solution architect roles
What title would I search for?
Evangelist is closest to what you're describing.
Solution Architect
Technical Sales Professional, Cloud Solutions Architect, Consultant, etc...
