Hello all, I am married and has a kid of age 6. I am considering moving to Europe from US. It wound be nice to get some positive/negative feedback from someone who actually took the step. I am not American citizen. Thanks in advance
You been through it? Reasons for not doing it?
America is on the decline. Unless you're from a former soviet republic you will have to get used to a lower standard of living.
pfft. I'm from a former soviet republic and can say that living standard in certain areas in the US is much lower than where I come from. not even talking about prehistoric things in the US like using check-books and a need to hire someone to do my taxes instead of submitting my taxes online, like in every other civilized country
You mean lower standard of living in Europe as compared to America?
Yes.
Not a good time to move to Europe with all the craziness happening and instabilities.
Have you experienced it? Especially with kids?
I'm from Europe, moved to SF for work. Europe is very diverse, it depends on which country you're thinking of. Some countries have definitely a high standard of living plus lower costs compared to the Bay Area.
What was your experience like when you moved to Europe? Which part of Europe u went to? And how long you were there? You had kids when you moved?
I am thinking of Switzerland or Germany or Scandinavia
Lived in Switzerland and Sweden. I'd move to both countries in a heartbeat. Both have clearly a high cost of living, but also great standard. Housing is still much cheaper than here. Also Sweden has a great social and health care system. Pretty much everyone in Sweden (in large cities) speaks English too. I know many Americans who moved to Switzerland for a couple of years and then stayed long term. If you can relocate through your company/get a new job there, go for it!
Yes I get what you mean. I had done my masters from Sweden and I have some idea about it. However making such move with family have some challenges, esp language for kids in school
Don't do it
