Poorly written article, they had an app ID and secret that allowed them to access a few methods that a normal app wouldn’t.

It was for OS integrations and they’d still need your username and password to get access.

Since they make your phone they could get access to this anyway.

    Non-story.

That’s what you’d like to believe. Thing is that FB has zero credibility any more regarding data. Zuck’s bullshit apology tour didn’t change minds. In fact it was disappointing how much he punted until AI is good enough to do the work the company should already be doing.

Having worked at Facebook for 8+ years, it was literally graph access to build integrations into the OS like it was a first party app.

It was only access to data of people who owned on of their phones and had logged in.

I used to love FB but I'm starting to feel disgusted by their lack of responsibility with their user's privacy in order to make money at all costs. Shame.

I accept other criticism, but coming from a yahoo is a bit hypocritical. Were you disgusted with suppression of the hack of hundreds of millions of accounts? Were you disgusted by backdoor access granted by CEO to US govt to ALL of yahoo email accounts, keeping your own security guy in the dark?

Hey it’s free. So no right to privacy. If you care about privacy then delete your account.

  • What data is everyone so worried about? What the hell are people sharing that they care if it gets sold? Apple or Android both collect more info about you.
