Recently cleared FB interview. Following is the package - 1. Base 140k 2. Stock 220k 3. Relocation expenses + 16k relocation bonus (relocating from India). Location Melno park. Will be relocating with wife. Can you suggest how is the offer?
It's not great, median or slightly lower for E4. Do you have no competing offers? What's the signing bonus?
No sign in bonus :( .... Level at MS 62. No competing offer. Role is as Android developer.
How many years of experience? Trying to see if you were barely E4 or a strong E4. Either way, you can DEFINITELY negotiate a signing bonus easily (maybe even without a competing offer). Try to get a decent competing offer to bump up the base to ~150k and equity to ~250-275k.
Total years of experience 6.5 years. Interview was not completely great.
Base can go upto 160k. Stock can go upto 300k. Can greatly increase the sign on bonus. The recruiter is selling you cheap. Go ask for more.
How do you relocate without visa?
FB will apply for H1B. If I dont get visa, the offer will be cancelled
Ok, good luck
Don't do it, that is way too low in silicon valley. You will regret your decision. Better, try to find something in Seattle with Microsoft. Salary wise it'll work out in your favor.
He's just starting his career in the US. Don't move to Seattle to save a few thousand dollars more a year. Micro-optimizing for the short term is a terrible strategy. Spend a few years in the bay area, grow rapidly, and then maybe move elsewhere when you want to settle/retire.
Unless his wife is also working a decent tech job here, 140k isn't gonna cut it in the valley. Startups pay more than that. Amazon L4s in my team have a TC of 200k or more, and they are starting their careers (less than 2 years of experience). This guy has 7 years of experience, so clearly at least an L5 at Amazon making around 285k TC
Mind sharing what the interview experience was like? I'm considering a similar position. I was told their relocation package is based on family size. 10k for single, 16k for married, and I think 25k for married with kids.
Yup it is 16K. I wrongly mentioned 10k
So about 195k total compensation per year? That sounds very low.
That's more like 210k, which is median or slightly lower for E4.
If you're moving from India to an FB L4 role, just do it. You are getting a large Corp to apply for a H1B with a decent salary. US tech companies equate all India experience to zero, so I think this is a good opportunity for you. You can always go back to your old place / similar in India if things don't work. Yes, the pay is slightly lower than median. But that's because people join with US experience and all Indians do after a 2 year Masters degree+experience, which in the company's perception, is better.
I also have Master's degree in CS from the best college in India.
Na man, it's not at all about your skill or a post grad education. So the single biggest hurdle in getting that US tech job is that goddam H1B visa. The US Masters degree is like a right of way into it because of visa laws... So: my point is the following. If someone's handing you an L4 without doing the standard right of way, take it.
