Are you a principal at Amazon? This is a solid SDE3 comp.

Not too low? I was hoping for 320-330.

Ask for higher base. They can do 180

Microsoft desanxxx Jun 6, 2018

It is not very high. But without any leverage unlikely you can bump it up.

I have a bit higher offer but Google is not matching it fully.

TuneIn Spelmanson Jun 6, 2018

From what company that another offer? Is it higher on base or rsu?

Amazon Bazinga!!! Jun 6, 2018

Total yoe please? If you have competing offers, use them else get a couple of offers for negotiation.

10+. Have one competing offer that is a bit higher but Google is not valuing it at par

Amazon Bazinga!!! Jun 6, 2018

Ya, try getting an offer from one of the other top tech companies.

Amazon JIdt44 Jun 6, 2018

Coming this is Seattle, it’s totally equal to 330k in Bay

I am a manager. Let me tell you something. Never ever ask for more base when base is low. Instead ask for more equity or signon. Reason: Year end salary planning takes previous base into account. If it was low before you would get higher increase for same rating. But equity planning does not look at previous grants. So having higher initial grant will not have a bigger impact on it. Technically manager can adjust it downward. But that is still a manual action. Assuming manager leaves it to the formula, you are better off coming in with lower base and same TC. It does lower your bonus slightly but that should be negligible for L5.

Great advice! I didn’t know this. This makes sense and is probably true at a lot of companies.

Not true at Yahoo though. They see your outstanding RSU before allotting.
