Hi all, got verbal offer from Amazon in California. I have 12 years of experience as software engineer but mainly in scientific computing not really web development. I would appreciate any feedback about this offer: Base ~ 150k signup bonus ~ 100k/2years RSUs 200/ 4 years backloaded in the last two years.
Feels like you were weak in your interview performance. This puts you first year TC at 220ish? Seems low
Hope you are not day dreaming.... Not sure about Apple pay but this is not low at Amazon... This falls close to median of current SDE pay ( inflated stock price)... So it must be more than median in true numbers I am considering the total comp... Not base alone

Actually it seems legit for Amazon base but I would push for higher bonus cash. RSUs appear correct and are always back loaded 5/15/40/40 model
Do you have any speculations as to why they are back loaded? Most places I know do 25% over 4 years. Many even do monthly vesting after 2 years. Do you think it's an incentive to stay 3-4 years or is it because they know many don't stay 3-4 years? Even sign on is over two years, not that uncommon though. I actually use to work for an online brokerage and even worked on a vesting schedule project lol so I've seen many employees actual vesting schedules.
The recruiter is saying because the bonus is vested over 2 years RSU will come later in year 3 and 4. I think they are incentivizing staying with Amazon for 4 years
Base and RSU looks fine, sign on can be significantly negotiated.
200 rsu is not bad at all given the current market
At market price for a SDE2, but maybe low for Amazon

sde2 for 12 years of experience seems like very low ball!
For your experience Sde3 was also within range. Maybe the interviewers considered the Sde3 role but decided to down level. For Sde2, this offer is on the higher end.
