Company: Glassdoor Role: Senior Platform Engineer (Java) YOE: 10+ Location: San Francisco Base: 165K Bonus: 10% LTIP: about $45K a year after 3 year cliff Sign on: 10K Relocation: 10K I make 145K base + 10% bonus (~160 TC) at the moment living in NJ suburbs.
You going to work at the airport?
Fixed
Still in the title lol
Can't survive in SF with that salary...
At 10+ YOE as a SWE you should be making 250k+ AT LEAST in the Bay Area. End of story. Well, let me explain a bit. Fresh grads are making almost 200k TC at FAANGM or unicorns. It is completely unacceptable for them to pay you less than 250k. So anyways, you could counter with: Base 180k Bonus is fine RSUs or whatever: 500k vesting over 4 years. (Maybe Recruit Holdings doesn’t give RSUs, hence this LTIP thing, but if not they should give you around this much in cash.) Sign on: 20k Relocation is fine I doubt they’ll agree to the above if their initial offer is so low. You could work here for a year to “break into” the Bay Area, but don’t linger for too long.
Agreed. Unless you see huge upsides to this job for your personal growth and the impact you feel you'd have on the world, this is a low offer.

Do you know what level that is? Salary is a bit low. Bonus, LTIP, and relocation are about right. I think sign on is a bit low too. I think room for a counter for sure!
Only verbal offer at this point. Didn't think to ask about level. Will find out the next time I speak to the recruiter.
Indeed owns Glassdoor now, not sure if they’re using the same leveling though. But your range is absolutely correlated to level. SF has a cost of living bump to salary as well, so I’d do some math to figure out how that affects you. Likely a horizontal or backwards move from your current TC
