I've got an offer from Audible and I need help in offer evaluation if I choose Boston city. Also, how much taxes will I be paying in Boston? Base: 112k Stocks: ~24k per year Sign on: 26k / 21k second year Relocation: 10k How is the living cost in Boston and please help me to calculate how much can I get in hand per month in Boston after tax evaluation? How is this tax different from Newark, NJ? Thanks!
The money you spent on a Kevlar vest in Newark can be applied to a nice home.
What's Kevlar test?
Boston is a much nicer place. Taxes are different but both are high. A 2BR outside town but still walking to the subway (T) will be about $3k for 1200sq ft. Tech is booming in Boston so if you have skills, finding other work is trivial. Tons of young techies in Boston so finding someone to split rent with shouldn’t be too hard.
Great. Thank you.

Biden’s new tax proposal is wild
If you actually live in Newark NJ your cost of living in a nice part of Boston would probably be double or higher. However, if you actually live in Newark, there are comparable areas in the Boston area that are relatively cheap (but not very safe or nice). Massachusetts has a ~5% state tax, vs the progressive tax in NJ (you can google it).
Thanks. That helps. Any idea if I can get a decent 2bhk in 2-3k in Boston?
Not anything nice, and not in a good area.
