Posting for a friend who's trying to decide between multiple offers. The position at Facebook is Data Engineer and still open for negotiation, while the rest are SDE1s and fully negotiated. He's currently inclined towards FB, but not entirely sure. What's the best place for someone who's just starting out? Yelp, SF Base - 120k Stock - 100k MS, Redmond Base - 107k Stock - 120k Sign on - 50k Uber, SF Base - 122k Stock (@ 48$) = 235k Facebook Base - 115k Stock - 100k Sign on - 20k
FB. Hands down.
The microsost offer is actually higher than my current comp after 4 years in MICROSOFT.
Are those stock prices annual or RSU after few years?
How many years experience and what education level?
Fb has best long term growth
FB
I would say Uber, never join any company base on name, if you want to become data enginner then join facebook, otherwise negotiate with other companies. There is no internal transfer from data engineer to sde without interview. Your friend will waste time by being working as data enginner if he wants to become developer. I heard yelp is not doing good. If your friend can move to redmond then microsoft is also good option.
What is a data engineer? Is it a role you get stuck in and can't get out of?
I didn’t even look at the comp. if it comes down to companies, I’d exclude Yelp and MS. Lots of MS folks are leaving for companies like FB. Yelp, well, their product and company seem stagnant. As a recruiter, I’ve never heard candidates wanting to go there except sales people. So it’s between Uber and fb and the seemingly new controversy every other week there, I think fb is the best bet. Of course, if location matters, your friend will have to keep that in mind.
Join fb as data engineer instead of developer roles in other company??
