Is not wearing a tie for say an interview with a consulting firm like Accenture or EY or Deloitte acceptable?

I’ve never worn a tie to an interview.

Come to think of it, I don’t even own one.

    • Yes, I agree, but I cant or OP cant personally change the culture, so he must conform to it. Whats wrong with that? He needs to wear the tie, end of thread.

So that culture looks down on t-shirt wearing tech (and other people) as “nerds” who deserve “no respect” — and at least as massive a sub culture looks down upon them as gutless conformists and robots. So all is well, live and let live, it’s all relative.

    Depends on the TC level
Nobody cares under mgr level for most companies.

Client facing roles are different as well. They’ll rate you on how you’ll look in front of clients

If you are willing to deal with customers and putting a monkey suit and noose every day, then yeah I guess it matters.

Totally depends on the role. If you are interviewing with a company whose people wear formal clothing when doing their jobs then you should follow that practice for the interview.

    Ask the recruiter.
