Expectations by Level @ Facebook

I hear rumors on blind that there are very high expectations by level at Facebook. If you come in at an L7 or L6 for example there are high expectations for you. Can someone share more details here? This is for PM btw. Obviously that sounds quite stressful when coming into a new job and trying to ramp up, learn new systems and tech, etc. For those that came to FB at an L6 or L7, how have you managed to survive your first year? YOE 15 TC 400

Leveling varies for tech and “non-tech”, for example, IC6 TPM is equivalent to IC5 engineer. If you’re coming in as an IC7 you don’t have time to be on Blind right now ;-)

The biggest challenge is to quickly adjust to and adopt the culture, which is the same challenge for any company you join. It’s just you won’t have as much time and space to make mistakes (as they are much costlier at that level) as, say, IC4.

all companies have higher expectation for higher levels. otherwise, why not hire lower level people?

That’s all fair and makes sense, question is if they set you up for success? For example when you add the fact that it’s a new product, new process etc there’s usually 3-6 month ramp up time alone in any new co, right? Do they account for that?

yes they account for that but tbh it’ll def still be stressful. rewarding and a growth opportunity, but stressful

Does this make FB a tough place to join in general if you plan on staying for 3-4 years?

You realize we are not charity? We pay you a lot to do a lot. If you don’t do a lot.. well. We will give you some ramp up time but we expect you to hit the ground running. Moving as a high level employee is hard everywhere. You need to learn a lot quickly and start from zero basically.

Of course not, totally get it. Mostly my question is focused on how one is set up for success to contribute coming in new at a high level at FB (vs other places). Definitely have the expectation it will be a steep learning curve initially.
