Thats a trap. You should let them give the offer.

6 yoe == senior staff? Or they just inflate the title?

Palo Alto Networks ummagumma Oct 19, 2020

Our levels are inflates, yes. 230k tc is about the average for senior staff.

Ask for Principal and at least 200K in RSU's for sign-on (I received 300k in RSU's for Principal). Principal base is at least 215k with a 20% bonus. Once you start, the raises in PANW suck and the RSU's aren't being handed out like they were. Get everything you can on your way in.

It's interesting to read your post, because a friend of mine recently applied and was given similar numbers (220 base, 20% bonus, 300k rsu), except it was for a Senior Principal level, not Principal. I wonder if that was a low-ball or their comp bands are just really wide?

Palo Alto Networks anTt36 Oct 27, 2020

That's not a terrible offer, but the salary is definitely lower than what it should be for a Sr. Prin. To your point, the bands are pretty wide and the hiring manager most likely had discretion to do more on the base+salary side. Best of luck to your friend though!
