Whats going on with Expedia? Looks like move to Seattle not working well.
Agree with you. Stpuid decision to move to Seattle.
Most new outlets pretty much covered the real story. Focus lost and wasted on a poorly executed transformation vision.
Announced we were doing a significant reorg back in July then didn’t announce the details until end of October. And even then it was just moving some senior leaders around so no one really knew how they were supposed to shift what they were working on. Meanwhile no one did any work while they were waiting to see the new org structure. It showed in last quarters results
On top of this, leadership went almost completely radio silent for those 3 months sending their lieutenants out to do "Q&As" where they wouldn't address any of the questions everyone wanted answers to
Barry Diller is gonna run it like IAC. Tons of sub-brands under Expedia group. Mark O etc wanted to centralize everything. This way it makes it easier to jettison failing BU’s.
We have goals of winning the most awkward holiday party this year.
Does anyone have a plusone available? I seem to have misplaced my invitation.
I used to work at Expedia. Leadership is great at selling the vision without any concrete strategy on execution. Since I’ve been there, re-orgs and leadership shuffling was the norms and occurred every single month. New leadership provided the reasons for the re-orgs ‘streamline, alignment, integrate’, blah, blah, blah without any results to back up there actions and no accountability. While competitors were focused on innovations and executions, Expedia was focus on executing in circles in hopes that results will change. Barry Dillar is smart to make this move - they need to clean out the leadership and bring in new blood. However, that is a challenge as their compensation structure is way below the top tech companies. Unless they’re able to bring in new talent, I don’t see Expedia being able to compete with their competitors in the long run.
Very good insights from an ex expedian. We haven't done shit in the last 10+ years.
New talent = product visionaries. The tech required isn't too hot to go after LC addicts.
Who all compete with Expedia
I just read they are causing traffic problems at the new office.... that must be it ;) Heh... when they move to Seattle and everyone else is moving IN to Bellevue, it makes you wonder what they are thinking when it comes to other decisions!
